About Plausible Accuracy
- At some point I sort of got to thinking about web information, in the form of blogs, wikipedia, etc, and into a philosophical mindset of "how do people judge the validity of what they find". I realized that most people probably just have some sort of "sniff test" - is the information plausible? From there it was a short jump to the phrase "Plausible Accuracy", which I thought had a nice ring to it.To me, it also sort of ties back into the idea of Imposter Syndrome - the feeling that no matter what I choose to write about on the blog, it's going to be sort of fundamentally flawed just because I've (of course) got gaps in my knowledge and half the time am discussing things that I really don't know as much about as I should.

Good points, though I am really wondering how important is "the past" of the candidate by means of the dicipline. I am graduating in a year and started to hunt for my post-doc places. Having a basic science degree, I really want to move on to something different (and more fun!). So far what I see is that prospective mentors expect you to know this or that -which is understandable- but what are the odds for someone who wants to try something new? Will only pure-luck bring a cool mentor who can understand and can support this? Hard times..
